With long exposure black & white photography becoming increasingly common these days, it is a greater challenge to stand out from the crowd and produce work which holds the viewer’s attention. However, for me this has made the strive for originality even more vital; and through attention to detail in composition, subject, exposure control and post-processing, this is what I continue to aim for.
Taking this further, I combine each image with an interesting quotation or self-penned poetry to add greater depth and meaning to the works. It's about taking a photograph and imagining the story or thinking behind it; sometimes changing the tone of the image, sometimes enhancing it.
In 2009 I became Creative Director of Photography at the online art collective SlashTHREE, a renowned art site featuring themed exhibitions by some of the world's best up-and-coming artists. As well as creating exclusive images for each exhibition, my role is to curate the photography submissions and bring in new talent to the site.
I work with Canon digital SLR bodies and lenses, and travel extensively around Scotland and occasionally further afield chasing the light, land and sea. During my university studies in Edinburgh I obtained a Batchelor of Arts 1st Class Honours degree, and now aged 30, I live in Perth (Scotland) where I spend most of my days wishing I lived by the coast...
